Lawyers for Warriors: Hampton Roads (L4W) brings together pro bono legal programs serving military families in the Hampton Roads area to create a stronger and more cohesive program.
Join a team of attorneys dedicated to serving those who serve us all
Lawyers for Warriors: Hampton Roads (L4W) is a first-of-its-kind project which aims to better serve the enormous legal needs of service members in the Hampton Roads area. Like many areas of fleet and force concentration, Hampton Roads has a tremendous demand for pro bono legal services. Home to the world’s largest naval base, Naval Station Norfolk, and the only place in the United States that has the presence of every military branch as well as NATO, Hampton Roads has one of the largest, and fastest growing military populations in the country. Because of this, special efforts are needed in this area to ensure that the legal needs of Hampton Road’s warriors are met.

One Team One Fight
L4W will encourage local pro bono efforts to collaborate with the ABA Military Pro Bono Project in recruiting civilian attorneys to provide services to our warriors in a "One Team One Fight" effort. Through Continuing Legal Education sessions, L4W will train attorneys in the unique laws, regulations and cultural realities that they will encounter when taking on military clients. Upon receiving this training, the volunteer attorneys will join this dedicated group of professionals who aspire to give back to those who have given so much.
Please note: To register, you will be directed to the ABA Military Pro Bono Project website. In the registration form, please specify that you heard about the program through Lawyers for Warriors (L4W), along with the Virginia legal organization through which you heard about L4W.
Servicemembers and military families may visit the Information Center for information about their legal rights and responsibilities and the Directory of Programs to find a state-by-state guide of legal resources available to military families. No legal representation, advice, or assistance is provided by the Military Pro Bono Project staff. Click here for more information on how to be referred to the Military Pro Bono Project.
L4W is partnering with the ABA Military Pro Bono Project, which accepts case referrals from military legal assistance attorneys (JAGs) anywhere in the world on behalf of junior-enlisted servicemembers facing civil legal issues, and it places these cases with pro bono attorneys where the legal help is needed in the United States. The L4W partnership focuses on the Hampton Roads-area in Virginia.
After you sign up, you will receive a weekly email that lists the available military pro bono case opportunities throughout the United States. You may also periodically receive email notices of pro bono case opportunities in Virginia. View the current open pro bono cases.
When registering, you also have the opportunity to participate with Operation Stand-By to assist military attorneys in need of attorney-to-attorney advice on state-specific legal topics in your areas of expertise.
Registering does not obligate you to take any particular case or offer legal guidance to a particular military attorney but we hope that you will consider volunteering to serve those who serve us all.
