Official Rules - ABA Public Defense News Quiz

DESCRIPTION: The ABA Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants produces ABA Public Defense News, a weekly newsletter regarding public defense nationwide. Each week, the newsletter includes a quiz question regarding public defense. The first person to respond to [email protected] with the correct answer will win a small prize, usually an ABA book or pamphlet.

ELIGIBILITY: This promotion is open to all recipients of ABA Public Defense News. Participants must be legal residents of the United States age 21 and over. Directors, officers, and employees of the American Bar Association and their immediate families and household members are not eligible to participate. Only one entry per person is allowed. Persons who have won the weekly quiz in the past 6 months are ineligible to participate.

HOW TO ENTER: No purchase is necessary to enter. Purchase of any ABA product, service, or membership will not improve an entrant’s chances of winning. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. To enter, entrants must: (1) receive the ABA Public Defense News via email; and (2) respond to [email protected] with the correct answer in the body of an email. Only one response per person will be accepted.

SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS: The first person to respond by email to [email protected] with the correct answer will be deemed the prize winner. All decisions are final. Winners will be notified by email or mail within one week of the drawing. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, does not respond within five business days from the date ABA first tries to notify him or her, or the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such potential winner forfeits all rights to win the promotion or receive the prize, and the prize will be awarded to the second person to respond by email with the correct answer. Entry and acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use winners’ names, prizes won, hometowns, likenesses, statements, and other personally identifiable information for online posting and promotional, advertising, and marketing purposes without additional compensation or notice, except where prohibited by law.

PRIZES AND ODDS: Various small prizes will be awarded, including ABA books and pamphlets. The retail value of each prize varies. The approximate retail value of each prize is less than $30. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries receives. Odds are estimated at 1/100. Only one prize per person per household will be awarded. ABA may substitute prize of equal or greater value. Cash equivalent for prizes is not available. Prize winners are responsible for all taxes associated with winning a prize.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION: By participating, each entrant agrees to these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, and releases and discharges the ABA, subsidiary and affiliated entities, and each of their respective officers, directors, members, employees, independent contractors, agents, representatives, successors and assigns (collectively “Sponsor”) from any and all liability whatsoever in connection with this promotion, including without limitation legal claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages, demands or actions of any kind (including without limitation personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light) (collectively “Claims”). Except where prohibited, acceptance of a prize constitutes a release by any winner of the Sponsor of any and all Claims in connection with the administration of this promotion and the use, misuse or possession of any prize. All entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. Sponsor is not responsible for errors or for lost, late, ormisdirected mail or email, or telecommunication or hardware or software failures, including by reason of any bug or computer virus or other failure. Sponsor may cancel, modify or terminate the promotion if it is not capable of completion as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, tampering, unauthorized intervention, force majeure or technical difficulties of
any kind.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS: For a list of prize winners, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Malia Brink, 1050 Connecticut Ave. N.W., Suite 400, Washington, D.C. 20036.

OPT-OUT OPTION: Any individual may elect to opt out of receiving future promotion or contest mailings by calling the ABA Service Center at 800-285-2221.

LAWS AND REGULATIONS: This promotion is governed by U.S. law and all federal, state, local and municipal laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law.
