Juan is Of Counsel to Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A., and is the founder and principal of The Thomas Law Group. Juan’s practice includes the following specialties: real estate/estate planning, labor and employment, and family law. In addition, Juan provides counseling and training to firm clients in areas involving personnel, collective bargaining, and business development matters. He previously served as an At-Large Delegate in the ABA House of Delegates for the Illinois State Bar Association. Juan chaired the ABA Section of Civil Rights & Social Justice during the 2022-23 bar year and successfully launched and hosted a weekly podcast titled the “Chair Chat” to discuss important civil rights, economic, and social justice issues. As Chair, he also convened the Section’s inaugural Economic Justice Summit to focus attention on economic disparities and inequities throughout the United States. He previously served on the Section Council for the State & Local Government Section and on the Editorial Board for Human Rights Magazine. Juan is an ABA Fellow and has served on numerous ABA committees including, but not limited to, Nominations, Issues of Concern, ABA Day, Meetings & Planning, and Presidential Appointments. He also served as the 75th President of the National Bar Association from 2017-18.  Juan is the Secretary of the National Council of Bar Presidents and the 3rd Vice President of the Illinois Bar Foundation.

Juan is an ordained Baptist minister and is a graduate of the University of Chicago School of Divinity and the Chicago Theological Seminary.  His passion for community service is rooted in his faith tradition and has led him to serve as an elected official and in leadership positions in numerous local, state, and national civic and professional organizations. Outside of his professional and civic life, Juan enjoys time with good friends and family, traveling, cooking, music, and dancing.

Juan is married to the former Angela Nicole Clay from Silver Spring, MD who is the Executive Director of the William L. Clay Scholarship and Research Fund that provides scholarships to college students in the St. Louis, MO area.
