Susan is a partner and shareholder in the law firm of Sieben Carey PA where she has spent her career representing clients in a variety of complex personal injury and wrongful death claims. Susan serves as her firm’s ethics counsel. Her practice also includes serving as an ADR neutral as an arbitrator, mediator and special master.

Susan’s career has included extensive involvement in law related organizations and bar associations, including leadership as president of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (2018), president of the Minnesota State Bar Association (2005-2006) and president of the Hennepin County Bar Association (1999-2000).

Susan has served on the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates since 2007. Her other ABA activities include service on the Investments Subcommittee, the Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence, the Standing Committee on Government Affairs, the Standing Committee on Bar Activities and Services, the ABA Day Planning Committee, and the TIPS Task Force on Plaintiff Lawyer Involvement.

Susan also serves on the boards of a variety of other professional associations and community organizations including two non-profits that are near and dear to her: Achieve Services, Inc., a day training and habilitation program for adults with disabilities, and Lakeland Public Television, the PBS broadcaster in northern Minnesota where she grew up.

In addition to her trial practice, in 2008 Susan was appointed to chair the Special Master Panel in the specially created compensation process for survivors of the I-35W bridge collapse. Her responsibilities included designing and implementing a claims process, completing hearings and damages determinations, and deciding a fair distribution of the $36.64 million appropriated by the Minnesota legislature to compensate survivors of that disaster.

Susan received her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, and her undergraduate degree in political science from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota.
