Thomas is a Member with Sills Cummis & Gross, P.C. in Newark, New Jersey and is the Chair of the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. He is a Commissioner on the ABA Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI), a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a Life Fellow of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. He previously served as a Delegate of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) in the ABA House of Delegates, a Member of the ABA Coalition on Racial and Ethnic Justice (COREJ), and the Second Circuit Governor of the ABA Law Student Division. He is a Past President of the NJSBA, serving as the state bar’s first openly gay leader in 2016-2017.

A native New Jerseyan, he attended Emory University in both undergraduate and graduate schools. He holds a B.A. in Human and Natural Ecology & English, and a master’s degree in Public Health, specializing in Environmental and Occupational Health. He served two years in the United States Peace Corps in Nepal and lives in Asbury Park, New Jersey, where he spoils his Jack Russell Terrier, Sparky, something rotten.
