Lucian is a partner in Adams and Reese LLP and a lifelong Memphian. His practice includes legal ethics, media law, and commercial litigation. He represents lawyers, law firms, and others on issues of legal ethics and lawyer professional responsibility. The ABA Center for Professional Responsibility recently bestowed on him the Michael Franck Award, their highest award for work in the field of ethics and professional responsibility over a career. He served for five years on the ABA “Ethics 2000” Commission, which rewrote the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. He has chaired the editorial board of the ABA/BNA Lawyers’ Manual on Professional Conduct, and served as president of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers. He speaks and writes extensively on the ethical and regulatory aspects of the rapidly-changing legal services market. He is a founding chair of the Practising Law Institute’s annual full-day program, “The Ethics of NewLaw.” He also has served for a number of years as the President of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government.

He is a former ABA Treasurer and has previously served on its Board of Governors for seven years during two terms. He has served in the ABA House of Delegates, including as a delegate of the Tennessee and Memphis Bar Associations, since 1991, with the exception of a couple of years. He is a past President of the Tennessee Bar Association.

He is married to Jane Van Deren and they have two sons.
