The Spring Conference Has Been Cancelled

It is with sadness that the ABA and the Standing Committee on Lawyers' Professional Liability have decided to cancel the Spring 2020 National Legal Malpractice Conference. Recent events including recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to cancel all large group meetings in the next 8 weeks, the declaration of a public health emergency in New Orleans, the WHO declaration of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as a pandemic, and the growing number of law firms, corporations and governmental agencies limiting or prohibiting travel make it clear that going forward with the Conference would be impossible.

Claims Study Available

The American Bar Association Standing Committee on Lawyers' Professional Liability released data on a cross-section of legal malpractice claims during the period of 2012 - 2015. Profile of Legal Malpractice Claims 2012-2015 seeks to help lawyers reduce malpractice behavior by providing a "snapshot" of malpractice claim activity. The committee surveyed insurers that provide legal malpractice insurance about the number and type of legal malpractice claims received.
