The Law Practice Division (LP) serves four critical areas of expertise for our members: Marketing, Technology, Practice Management and Finance. In this issue it is time for us to focus on finance and its great importance to the practice. In the ever-evolving landscape of practice management, financial acumen is paramount. LP recognizes this necessity, which is why we have our Law Firm Finance Committee. This team is at the forefront of equipping legal professionals with essential content and knowledge needed to navigate the intricate financial aspects of law firm management. Alongside the committee's efforts, LP offers an array of finance resources tailored to support our members in the mastery of law firm finance.

Financial Guidance

The Law Firm Finance Committee stands as a critical focus and pillar within the LP, dedicated to addressing the multifaceted financial challenges that law firms face today and in the future. This includes providing comprehensive guidance, resources and relevant instruction and expertise on financial matters via finance-related CLEs found in the ABA’s CLE Marketplace. The committee addresses topics including, but not limited to:

  1. Financial planning and management. Aiding your practice in crafting and executing robust financial strategies that ensure long-term viability and growth.
  2. Budgeting and forecasting. Offering crucial insights and experience for precise budgeting and forecasting, enabling informed decision making.
  3. Billing and collections. Sharing best practices for efficient billing and collections, crucial for maintaining healthy cash flow. This includes How to Draft Bills Clients Rush to Pay.
  4. Profitability analysis. Assisting firms in scrutinizing their profitability metrics to uncover opportunities for financial enhancement.
  5. Tax planning and compliance. Guiding firms through the complexities of tax planning and compliance, optimizing their tax positions while ensuring legal conformity.
