Managing Your Member Benefits Has Never Been Easier

Zachary Bambacht

We are entering the final quarter of our bar year, and it certainly has been a dramatic year of transformation. We are excited about the role that the Law Practice Division (LP) plays in the future of the ABA and most excited that, beginning Sept. 1, 2019, all ABA members can opt in, at no additional cost, to be a member of LP. As an existing member, again, this will be at no additional cost when you renew your membership for the new bar year. It’s a great time to remind everyone, existing members and those who want to join, that we, as a Division, continue to teach the business of practicing law, including management, marketing, technology and finance. We have robust offerings for our members that include new book titles, CLEs, webinars, Law Practice magazine and our ABA TECHSHOW Conference and EXPO. So don’t forget to opt in to take advantage of this tremendous value of your membership and to receive the thought leadership to manage your practice.

One of the most exciting offerings you will have access to is our TECHSHOW. The 2019 ABA TECHSHOW took place from Feb. 27 to March 2. This year’s show included 66 sessions, covering all aspects of legal technology, that allowed attendees to earn CLE. It was a wonderful opportunity for all attending members to network with the legal community and better address their legal technology needs. We made it easy for attendees to connect with their peers to exchange ideas, tips, tools and resources by having community discussions led by legal technology experts. The communities, based on various LP committees, included Trust and Estates, Real Property, Business Law, Family Law, Solo/Small Firms, Litigation, Intellectual Property, Young Lawyers, Canadian and International Law Lawyers, Mac Lawyers, Managing Partners, and Women Rainmakers. Additionally, our EXPO Hall continues to feature all the service providers and product makers relevant in legal technology, from start-ups to long-time reputable brands. It was a great way for participants to get a first look at what’s new and to find real solutions that fit all practices and budgets, from small to large. We hope you can join us for TECHSHOW 2020; save the dates for Feb. 26-29, 2020!

I also wanted to highlight our latest offerings in book publishing, to better assist you in business development and technology. Strategic Networking for Introverts, Extroverts and Everyone in Between is the key to successful networking. This book outlines how taking the time to plan, prepare and follow specific action steps will make you comfortable with your networking efforts and increase your effectiveness. In addition, the popular annual guide to legal technology is back with its latest edition, The 2019 Solo and Small Firm Legal Technology Guide. It is the only book of its kind to help solo and small-firm lawyers find the best value for their dollars in legal tech.

For our members, thank you for making LP what it is today! If you are not a member, please consider joining us. There hasn’t been a better or more convenient time to do so in our history!
