About the ACL Grant

The Project

The ABA Commission on Law and Aging, with the National Center for State Courts, in 2016 received an Elder Justice Innovation Grant from the U.S. Administration on Community Living (ACL) to establish, expand, and enhance state WINGS.

Expert Panel

The project is aided by an Expert Panel drawn from organizational members of the National Guardianship Network and from key judicial, legal, aging and disability entities.

Mission & Goals

Mission

The project aims to improve the ability of state and local guardianship systems to develop protections less restrictive than guardianship, advance guardianship reforms, and address abuse.  

Goals

• Help states establish or enhance WINGS.
• Through NCSC, support WINGS in strategic planning, data collection, and outcome measurement.
• Develop  resources in key areas of guardianship reform and promots cross-state communications so states can learn from each other. 
• Test WINGS as a replicable model for making changes in practice.

State Court Selection

The ABA Commission and the Expert Panel selected applicants for funding through a competitive process for the highest court in each state.

ACL Project WINGS include seven states: Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Oregon, and Utah.
