Melinda Burrows, is the Vice President – Head of Compliance at Outerwall in Bellevue, WA. Outerwall is the company behind well-known Redbox movie and video game rental kiosks and popular Coinstar coin-counting kiosks. She has been practicing labor and employment law for 25 years and became a Section member in 1996. Melinda joined the Section in order to gain holistic, cross-constituency perspective on labor and employment law. She believes that Section membership provides countless resources that allow her to keep up-to-date on emerging labor and employment law trends.
Melinda is responsible for leading Outerwall’s Ethics and Compliance Office, working with the business to build infrastructure and controls that facilitate compliance the letter and the spirit of applicable laws and company values. She also serves as Outerwall’s ethics officer, overseeing awareness initiatives and administration of the Code of Conduct and EthicsLine employee reporting system. Before joining Outerwall, Melinda was a partner in a national law firm and worked in-house for a major telecommunications company and an investor-owned electric utility. She became a lawyer to advocate for those whose voices may not always be heard. This self-described “pragmatic” lawyer is a great member to get to know.
