Gary Bailey, a Union lawyer with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council in Chicago, IL, has been practicing Labor & Employment law since 1989. As in-house counsel for Illinois Law Enforcement Officers’ Union, he negotiates contracts, handles grievance arbitrations and disciplinary hearings, and represents officers at the scene of critical incidents (e.g. police shootings). Gary joined the Section of Labor and Employment Law in the early `90s after attending a Midwinter Meeting of the State and Local Government Bargaining and Employment Law Committee. He found the level of discussion regarding important issues to be advanced and the people having the discussions to be well-informed. He doesn’t want to miss another meeting. All the information he has gathered from Midwinter Meetings has been helpful to his practice of law and he uses the information at these meetings to the benefit of his clients when he represents them at the bargaining table, at arbitration, and in court. And of course, he values the close friendships that he has forged over the years with those he has met at Section meetings. Gary is a great member to get to know!
