Rocky Relationships: Navigating Difficult Clients and the Ethics Issues They Pose

Unfortunately, some clients do not appreciate their obligations during the discovery process. Other clients won’t heed our advice during settlement negotiations. Other clients lie. Neither employer- nor union/employee-side lawyers are immune to difficult clients and tricky ethical situations. Labor and employment lawyers must be aware of lurking ethics concerns when dealing with difficult client situations to ensure successful management of them within the bounds of the rules of professional conduct. Panelists will discuss examples of some common ethics issues that arise when dealing with difficult clients and strategies on effectively handling them.
