Passing the bar made me a lawyer, joining the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section gave me a career. It was my first year as an attorney when I was tabbed by a former professor to come and speak at the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section on Immigration Law. This opportunity became not only a medium for me to become a leader in my practice area, but a forum for professional development, networking, and frankly friendship that has spanned my life as a lawyer. My unsolicited suggestion to the next generation of legal leaders is to volunteer with the ABA like it is part of your job, and like all great investments, the return on investment will be a fold of multiples – both professionally and personally.

The ABA Labor & Employment Law Section is the BEST! Where else in our profession can we really let down our guard with opposing counsel and make them our friends and collaborators? It has also helped me grow my network of plaintiff lawyer colleagues from across the country who are there for me when I have a question, need help in their state, or just want to brainstorm. Sometimes it can be intimidating stepping out of your comfort zone and getting involved, but you will not regret it with this group!
