July 30, 2024 Judicial Division

JD Director's Column

Ms. Tori Jo Wible

Dear Members of the Judicial Division, I will be retiring from the ABA effective August 30, 2024.

It has been my honor to serve the Judicial Division for the past seven years. I consider this the capstone to my legal career which began @#% years ago as a judicial law clerk in the 10th Judicial District of Minnesota. I served as a prosecutor and assistant city attorney before taking leave to have children. When I returned to work it was as a staff attorney for the Minnesota Supreme Court. When my husband’s job brought us to Chicago, I joined the ABA staff. I worked in the Legal Services Division for many years before coming to the Judicial Division. Working with the JD has brought me full circle to serving the judiciary.

During our time together, the JD has weathered financial storms, a pandemic, and the website. However, the division has held membership steady; created dozens of CLE and non-CLE programs, won an award from the Section Officers Conference for the Diversity programing; created a Book Board that has already turned a profit and is set up for many more years of ‘in the black’ publishing; met with thousands of students; celebrated hundreds of JCP attendees; have written countless articles for the JD Record and the award-winning Judges.Journal; and you have cared for each other in small and large ways demonstrating the generosity and temperament I have always admired in the judiciary.

I am leaving the JD in good hands; the upcoming leaders are well aware of the challenges ahead and armed to face them. The staff is the most organized and efficient team of women I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

Thank you all for the kindness you have shown me. I will be here until the end of the fiscal year. Until then there is one more council meeting – I’ll see you all in Chicago!
