January 23, 2023 Appellate Judges Conference

AJC Chair's Column

By Hon. Jacqueline H. Nguyen, Los Angeles, CA

In November, our biggest annual event—the multi-day Appellate Judges Education Institute (AJEI) Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona—was a spectacular success. Of course, an incredible event of that magnitude would not have been possible without the contributions of countless people, from the committee members who worked nearly a year to plan the Summit programs, to the incredible array of speakers who shared their varied insights to the enthusiastic attendees who contributed their time and participation in programming. But I wanted to give special thanks to Indiana Supreme Court Justice Christopher Goff, who chaired the AJEI Planning Committee. Justice Goff has set the bar for our next planning chair, Michelle Childs, D.C. Circuit Judge, to organize what is sure to be another sold-out Summit planned for Washington, D.C. in 2023.

Now is a good time to join AJC if you are not already a member. Despite the name of our Conference—the Appellate Judges Conference— you do not have to be a judge to join! The Council of Appellate Lawyers (CAL) and the Council of Appellate Staff Attorneys (CASA) are integral participants in AJC. Please check us out to learn more about the many benefits of being a member as well as how to join us.

Hon. Jacqueline H. Nguyen
