Welcome to the 2024 Summit edition of Appellate Issues. This issue is dedicated to memorializing the panel presentations at the AJEI Summit in Washington, D.C. Attendees at the Summit heard from a deep bench of talented jurists and practitioners on a wide array of topics. Reflecting the breadth and depth of speakers and topics, the articles in this edition cover everything from the keynote fireside chat between Judge J. Michelle Childs of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh, to Dean Chemerinsky’s annual Supreme Court Civil Review, and just about everything in between. For example, this Summit included panels covering appellate courts of special jurisdiction, victims’ rights and sentencing reform in the context of a civilian-military dialogue, and the ever-timely topic of the ethics of recusal, among many other topics.
