Welcome to the Fall 2024 theme edition of Appellate Issues. This issue is dedicated to tricks of the trade covering advice ranging from navigating the post-judgment appellate bond process, to thinking twice before you jump on the (Cleaned up) parenthetical train, to a career retrospective that will leave you with a sharper appellate focus and hopefully inspire you to aspire to a long and commendable appellate career like the one recounted by the article’s author. To that end, it’s a bittersweet time at Appellate Issues as that author, Steve Emmert, one of our long-time contributors, hangs up his appellate lawyer hat after an illustrious 42-year career.

Steve’s retirement also coincides with my last issue as editor after six-and-a-half years managing this publication. Thank you for your readership and authorship over the years, especially as we published record-breaking Summit issues the past two years. I’ve enjoyed this position very much and have learned many things from our diverse array of talented authors and editorial board members. But now it’s time to turn over the reins to incoming editor Dwyer Arce, a Partner at Kutak Rock. To help give Dwyer a warm welcome and continue your support of Appellate Issues, please consider volunteering to write an article for the upcoming Summit edition. The slate of programs in Boston is one for the ages and should not be missed.
Thank you for your ongoing readership. If this edition has inspired you to write an article for a future edition of Appellate Issues, please email Dwyer at [email protected]. If you would like to contact me in the future, you can find me at the helm of my new boutique federal practice, Olson Stein LLP, where I may be reached at [email protected].
