With the end of summer upon us and the Summit just around the corner, I am pleased to present the Summer Edition of Appellate Issues, our annual theme issue. The theme of this edition is Niche Appellate Practice, an intentionally broad umbrella to allow the author-contributors to write about a unique and perhaps lesser-known aspect of being an appellate practitioner. This edition contains a diverse and enlightening set of articles, from pro bono appellate practice, to appellate mediation, appellate bonds, and other topics in between. For a better understanding on the appellate lawyer’s role in partnering with trial counsel as well as other appellate opportunities, you will find two helpful and thoughtful articles that may help you refine and expand your practice. And for those of you who appear in federal appellate courts where federal district judges sit by designation on appellate panels, you will find a treasure trove of tips on appellate practice from some of those district judges, providing candid and practical advice for your consideration.
As always, thank you for reading and please email me if you would like to write for a future edition of Appellate Issues.
