Book Drive

The Judicial Division will be collecting new or gently-used children’s books for kids in the Chicago community, and we have a friendly competition going with the American Association of Law Libraries who also have their Annual Meeting in Chicago at this time. Help us win!

Drop off books any time from Wednesday, July 31 to Sunday, August 4 at the JD staff table in Swissotel or the JD Council Meeting on Saturday.

If you are not attending the meeting, or can’t bring books with you to the meeting, you can make a donation online here.

Bernie’s Book Bank sources, processes and distributes free quality children’s books throughout Chicagoland to empower children to explore new ideas, gain knowledge, and strengthen reading skills through book ownership. Reading is the single most important skill a child needs. Yet many children lack access to books, especially books of their own. That’s why Bernie’s Book Bank works so hard to provide free quality books to children in our local areas to build personal libraries. They believe that books and book ownership create pathways to success.

In order to accomplish all of this, Bernie’s source, process, and distribute eight books annually to children, ages birth through sixth grade. Bernie’s Book Bank focuses on under-resourced communities—where children are the least likely to have access to books of their own—and delivers the age-appropriate, high-interest, and culturally relevant books children deserve.

Donation Guidelines:

  • New and / or gently used fiction / non-fiction from birth to 6th Grade.

Books we can’t use:

  • Textbooks
  • Dictionaries
  • Activity books
  • Coloring books
  • Reference material
  • Religious books
  • Foreign language books (dual language is OK)
