Judge Eric Bergstrom

Judge Bergstrom graduated from the University of Oregon in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.  He then moved to Washington D.C. and during his first year there was an intern in the U.S. Senate assigned to the Commerce Committee.  The following two years he worked in government relations for Matson Navigation, a U.S. based steamship company.  He returned to Portland in 1987 to attend Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College and was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship, and graduated in 1990 with a Juris Doctor Degree.  After graduating, he was hired by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office where he worked for 15 years in a variety of units, and in 2000 became Senior Deputy in charge of the Gang, Robbery and Vehicular Homicide units.  Judge Bergstrom was appointed as a Multnomah Circuit Court Judge by Governor Kulongoski in 2005.  Since joining the bench Judge Bergstrom handles mostly violent crime cases and is on the County’s Aggravated Murder panel.  He travels to many different Counties to help resolve serious criminal cases.  Judge Bergstrom also runs the County’s Duii Intensive Supervision Treatment Court and the Veteran’s Court.  He is also a frequent lecturer on topics of search and seizure, evidence and treatment courts.
