Many Harvard Law School students knew of classmate Rehan Staton through a July 2020 video that went viral, which featured him opening a Harvard Law School acceptance email. There’s a lot more to him than the video, and Staton wanted to connect with classmates more significantly while they attended remote classes over the past year.
So he and a few other 1Ls teamed up to play Among Us, an online multiplayer game centered around a spaceship in which points accumulate by completing maintenance-type tasks and killing imposters without sabotaging the vessel.
None of his classmates seemed to think that they were too sophisticated for the game, Staton says, and he saw no difference between them and old classmates at the University of Maryland, where he graduated from in 2018, or Bowie State University, where he started college.
Getting to know professors was also on his agenda. Like he did as an undergraduate, Staton set up meetings—albeit remotely—even if he didn’t have specific questions. According to him, his professors were happy to meet with him on a get-to-know-you better basis.
