This program is part of the International Human Rights Committee’s continuing Human Rights Defenders Series about threats to the rule of law and the need to protect lawyers, judges, other human rights defenders and civil society actors whose work and personal safety are often jeopardized by their governments or by companies or individuals in the private sector. The series is supported by three recent ABA resolutions in which the Association recognized the need to protect and defend these actors. Learn more about the series here.
Our previous programs in this series focused on challenges to the rule of law in particular countries. This program is different in that it considers the topic of environmental defenders globally. We will have speakers from several regions who are environmental activists and also lawyers who defend them from adverse consequences of the work they do.
