The bill of lading is a critical document for proving receipt of goods. It remains mostly paper-based across the industry, with shippers requiring the original document to be able to transport goods. Lawyers leading firms that offer eBL technology will discuss the potential for the widespread adoption of eBLs and the roadblocks that may still exist; a short history of the legal framework used among e/bls platforms; legal changes across the world in light of the adoption of the UNCITRAL Model Law for Electronic Transferable Records (MLETR) 2017 - UK, Singapore, France, Japan and others; implication and perspective of the US law; and the future in light of the growing uptake of the digitized documents of title.
