Counterterrorism measures and the promotion of human rights do not conflict, but are complementary and mutually reinforcing goals. Yet, countries increasingly have been using vague or overly broad counterterrorism and anti-money laundering laws to target human rights defenders and civil society organizations. Join us as we discuss the importance of respecting human rights, the rule of law, and legitimate security imperatives while countering terrorism.
