This panel provides varied perspectives on current challenges facing the judiciary, bar, and other human rights defenders in the Philippines, as well as offer suggestions for how the ABA and other international organizations, and individuals, can lend support. Speakers address reports of ongoing human rights challenges in the Philippines, including but not limited to extrajudicial killings and impunity, threats to freedom of expression, and continued repression of dissent. This program is part of the International Law Section International Human Rights Committee’s teleconference series on challenges faced by the judiciary, bar, and other human rights defenders worldwide. Previous programs have focused on U.S., Afghanistan, China, Turkey, Russia, Poland, Pakistan, Colombia, and Malaysia.
