Mission Statement

We are . . . A network of legal professionals working together to advance diversity, expand opportunities for women, and mentor female colleagues in the field of intellectual property law. The action group shares expertise and substantive knowledge and takes specific actions to build a better environment of gender equality for teamwork and leadership within the IP profession. The group also leverages the broad reach of the American Bar Association across substantive practices and liaises with relevant organizations to attract, inspire and advance more women in IP.

Subcommittees

Each of our subcommittees is tasked with specific responsibilities within the larger mission of the Group. If you are interested in participating in any of these subcommittees, please reach out to the Action Group Chair, or contact the Chair/Vice Chair of each subcommittee directly. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the group!

GRIT Subcommittee

Mission: The Grit Project is an initiative of the ABA's Commission on Women in the Profession (CWP); the project mission is to educate women lawyers about the science behind the grit and growth mindset - two important traits that many successful women lawyers have in common. By providing the tools to assess and learn these traits, The Grit Project seeks to enhance the effectiveness as well as the retention and promotion of women lawyers.

Outreach Subcommittee

Mission: To provide local and regional outreach through various programs in collaboration with the ABA and other organizations.

Content Subcommittee

Mission: To share within the group through the ABA website, social media accounts, and other means of communication, information that is relevant to Women in IP. We are NOT limiting the information to IP-specific subjects. The materials will include diversity, adversity, glass ceiling, work-life balance, dealing with stress, networking tips, leadership development, and other information we believe will enhance our skills and elevate our brands to the next level.
