Digital Replicas and AI Policy Discussion - October 11, 2024
Priya welcomed the panelists, including Chris Katopis, Kira Alvarez, and Andrew Coffman, for a discussion on digital replicas. She provided an overview of the topic, highlighting the rise of public-facing and advanced generative AI, which has impacted various laws and policies. She mentioned the concerns raised by the Writers Guild of America, SAG-AFTRA, and the use of unauthorized digital replicas in various contexts. Priya also discussed the government's approach to the issue, including the Biden Administration's executive order on AI and the Copyright Office's notice of inquiry, which received over 10,000 stakeholder responses. She mentioned the American Bar Association's comments on the issue, led by co-chair Chad Rutkowski. The discussion then shifted to the distinction between digital replicas and deepfakes, with Andrew Coffman invited to provide his insights on the matter.
