Chair’s Column

By John J. Beardsworth, Jr.

It is a new political era for the country as we usher in President Donald Trump’s administration. As a candidate, President Trump set his sights on policies including, regulatory reform, tax reform, national security, and infrastructure. As President, he has already begun moving forward with implementing portions of these policies. As I mentioned in the last issue of Infrastructure, part of his policy agenda, and of importance to the Section, is his regulatory reform agenda and plans to rebuild and improve the nation’s infrastructure. This quarter’s issue of Infrastructure features an article––Getting to There from Here: What the Trump Administration’s Infrastructure Program Might Look Like––that provides timely commentary on potential pillars of the President’s plan to build new roads, railways, airports, and other critical infrastructure, as well as a discussion of the use of private investment to finance such infrastructure projects.

This issue also looks at the prior administration’s Clean Power Plan and how it could be impacted by the Trump regulatory reform agenda. This will be an exciting year as we continue to see further developments of the President’s infrastructure plans, and his regulatory reform agenda.

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to make a call for nominations for the Samuel H. Porter Service Award. Sam’s outstanding leadership, hard work and dedication were a true asset to the Section and the industries that compose it. Please forward to the Section any suggestions you may have for an individual who demonstrates the leadership, commitment, and dedication exemplified by Sam’s service. Further details about the nominating process are contained in this issue of Infrastructure.
