Comparative Analysis of Malaysia’s Peaceful Assembly Act

The ABA Center for Human Rights was asked to look into whether Malaysia's Peaceful Assembly Act, in particular the ban on “street protests,” would be valid under international and comparative law principles, and what limitations, if any were placed on banning the use of public spaces for peaceful assembly in other jurisdictions (the United Kingdom, South Africa, the United States, Canada, and India).
