The American Bar Association, on behalf of President Patricia Lee Refo, issued a rule of law letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken concerning ongoing human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia.

The American Bar Association expresses concern that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has continued to wrongfully detain a number of human rights advocates without cause, including lawyer Waleed Abu al-Khair, recipient of the 2019 ABA International Human Rights Award; women's rights advocate Samar Badawi, winner of the 2012 International Woman of Courage Award of the U.S. Department of State; and Abdulrahman Al-Sadhan, an employee of the Saudi Red Crescent Society.
