In the 60th anniversary year of the 1961 Freedom Rides, CHR is pleased to honor the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF) for its decades of brave and effective service as the “law firm to the Civil Rights Movement.” Founded by the late, great Thurgood Marshall, in 1940, the LDF’s ongoing work has led and won the principal legal victories that have secured the promises of equal rights and due process under law enshrined in the American Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which Eleanor Roosevelt championed.
