Long-term care leaders have expressed their support for the proposed Medicare Advantage rule that would allow beneficiaries to use the same fast-track appeal process as Traditional Medicare beneficiaries but would eliminate the barriers of timeliness of the request (24 hours) and whether the person has left the care site. Long-term care leaders that have publicly expressed their support for the changes include the American Hospital Association (AHA) and LeadingAge. Both the AHA and LeadingAge also requested additional reforms in their comments. For example, the AHA requested that CMS “take additional steps to strengthen the role of [utilization management] committees” and increase oversight of utilization management policies.
