The ABA Health Law Section is requesting proposals for the 26th Annual Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law Conference (EMI) April 2-5, 2025, in Long Beach, California.
The deadline to complete and submit the Program Proposal Form is Friday, August 30, 2024. Please note that emailed proposals will not be accepted.
As the name suggests, EMI is focused on emerging issues in healthcare law. We welcome submissions on the issues you see effecting the healthcare legal and business environment. While the EMI Planning Committee is open to all emerging topic proposals, the Committee developed the following list of broad topics that the Committee believes would be of particular interest to attendees:
- Automation and the standard of care
- Administrative law in healthcare: impacts of Loper Bright and Corner Post
- Scope of practice issues
- Legal impact of provider/workforce shortages
- State of non-compete bans and impact on the healthcare industry
- Innovative approaches to rural healthcare access, including labor and delivery ward closure issues
- Evolving landscape of reproductive healthcare access and regulation
- Addressing gun violence in healthcare
- Bankruptcy in distressed healthcare businesses (pharmacies, providers, etc.)
- Updates in pharmaceuticals, PBMs
- Post-acute care reimbursement
- Elder care
- Disaster response and planning in healthcare settings
- Medicare Advantage updates
- Regulatory implications of advances in anti-aging technologies
- Off-label use and prescribing
- Ransomware issues and data security as grounds for False Claims Act
- Federal (DOJ, FTC, HHS) scrutiny of healthcare investments
- Growth and impact of state healthcare transaction laws
- Innovative delivery and payment models (hospital at home, value-based care management, etc.)
- Increased distress and operational demands on U.S. hospitals and health systems
