On August 20, 2024, CMS reported that it received over 16,000 complaints in the first six months of 2024, and more than 12,000 of the complaints were related to the No Surprises Act. Of those 12,000, the vast majority were against providers. The most common complaints concerned surprise bills and good faith estimates. During the first nine months of 2023, the No Surprises Act is estimated to have prevented more than 10 million surprise medical bills, according to a survey by AHIP and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
