The comment period for proposed changes to regulations implementing the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act has been extended from October 2 to October 17. While the original act applied only to group plans, the ACA extended mental health parity to qualified health plans. However, many patients still lack access to needed mental health care. The Biden Administration’s proposed rule changes would, among other things, require insurers subject to the Act to develop comparative analyses of non quantitative treatment limitations that include analyses of a variety of internal data to demonstrate compliance with the statute and its implementing regulations.
