Amendment to California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 Signed Concerning Reproductive Health Data

On October 8, 2023, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed amendments to California’s Consumer Privacy Act (the “CCPA”) that provide an exemption for reproductive health data. In his signing message, Newsom stated that the amendment provides stronger privacy protections for “individuals searching for information related to contraception, pregnancy care, perinatal care, and abortion services.”
