ACLU Files Class Action Lawsuit Against Delaware Prisons and Healthcare Providers

A class-action lawsuit filed by the ACLU of Delaware on October 11, 2023 claims that the Delaware Department of Corrections and its contracted healthcare providers did not provide inmates with adequate medical care. The alleged inadequate medical care includes delays or denial of care, lack of medical staff supervision, and lack of specialty care, as well as missing medications, tests, and procedures. The incidents have allegedly been taking place since April 2020 with one of the plaintiffs claiming that he was denied medications for more than 45 days. A legal director at ACLU Delaware is urging reforms while the inmates (as plaintiffs) are asking for an injunction to stop the alleged misconduct as well as compensation. The complaint lists the Delaware Department of Corrections, its Commissioner and Medical Director, Centene Corporation, Centurion of Delaware LLS, and VitalCore Health Strategies as defendants.
