Green Card Freeze Exacerbates Nursing Crisis

Nurse staffing is a primary business concern of health care providers. A State Department backlog of petitions from international nurses for green cards means only those petitions received prior to June 1, 2022, will be processed this fiscal year. Health care providers and industry groups report that this backlog will exacerbate the current nurse staffing shortage in the United States, which is currently projected to be a shortage of 200,000-450,000 nurses by 2025.
