Under section 4113 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, Congress extended through December 31, 2024 the following telehealth waivers: (1) Federally Qualified Health Centers/Rural Health Clinics can continue serving as distant site providers for non-behavioral/mental telehealth services; (2) Medicare patients can continue receiving services at any location; (3) audio-only telehealth services remain covered; (4) telehealth services can be provided by occupational and physical therapists, speech pathologists, and audiologists; (5) the requirement to visit in person with a physician every six months for diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of a mental health disorder remains delayed; and (6) there are no geographic restrictions on non-behavioral/mental telehealth services’ originating sites.
