Over 99% of US Hospital Pharmacists Reported Drug Shortages

A survey of hospital pharmacists by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) describes the implications of drug shortages in the US, including their impact on on patient care and healthcare spending.. Almost all survey respondents reported that their facilities were facing drug shortages, and a majority of survey respondents identified critical shortages in chemotherapy medications. Respondents also reported that their facilities’ drug and labor budgets increased by 6 to 10 percent due to drug shortages.
