California Legislature Passes Bill Making Providing COVID-19 Misinformation Unprofessional Conduct for Physicians and Surgeons

On August 30, the California legislature passed a bill that defines unprofessional conduct by a physician or surgeon to include disseminating misinformation or disinformation related to COVID-19 to the provider's patients while treating or advising them. The California Medical Board and the Osteopathic Medical Board have the authority to impose disciplinary action on providers for unprofessional conduct; such action could include loss of their licenses.
