HHS Directed to Explore Options for Lowering Prescription Prices by Executive Order

The CMS Innovation Center within HHS has the authority to test health care payment and delivery models that promote health care quality and efficiency. On October 14, President Biden signed an executive order requiring HHS to investigate models that could reduce the costs of prescription drugs and increase the availability of innovative drug treatments. Within 90 days of the order, the Secretary must submit a report outlining the details and timelines of any models selected for testing. The President noted that this order is intended to complement the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, signed into law this past August.
