New Study Finds Fewer than Ten Percent of Patent Lawyers Are Women.

Gender inequality continues to thrive in patent litigation, according to an article in the September 1 edition of the North Carolina Law Review, which found that 87.5% of patent arguments before the Federal Circuit and more than 90% of arguments before the Supreme Court have been presented by men. The authors challenge the “typical explanation” that men are more represented in science and technology fields; the Federal Circuit itself was 50% female until recently, and women argue patent cases for the United States before the Federal Circuit 48.5% of the time.
