New Cybersecurity Standards in Healthcare a Top Priority for the Biden-Harris Administration

On October 13, Anne Neuberger, Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology, announced that we can expect to see new cybersecurity standards for the healthcare industry in the near future. Improvements to critical infrastructure has been a top priority of the Biden-Harris Administration, and Neuberger outlined steps that are in line with President Biden’s executive order from May 2021. The healthcare industry has been hit hard by an increasing number of cyberattacks, including a recent attack on one of the nation’s largest health systems. Neuberger indicated that the healthcare sector is a focus area for the Administration, and she confirmed that the Department of Health and Human Services is already working with hospital partners to develop minimum cybersecurity standards.

To that end, on October 27, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency unveiled cross-sector cybersecurity performance goals.
