On May 5, the FDA limited eligibility for the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to individuals 18 and older for whom other COVID-19 vaccines are not appropriate or available, and to individuals who choose to get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine because they could not otherwise get a COVID-19 vaccine. FDA determined that a risk of developing life-threatening blood clots and low levels of blood platelets within 1-2 weeks of receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine justified limiting the eligibility of individuals who can receive it.
