Biden Administration Announces Additional Steps to Mitigate Infant Formula Shortage

On May 18, President Biden took two additional steps to mitigate the nationwide infant formula shortage. First, the administration invoked the Defense Production Act, requiring suppliers to provide necessary supplies to infant formula producers ahead of any other customers who may have ordered their products. Second, the administration directed HHS and USDA to use DOD commercial aircraft to import infant formula abroad that meets U.S. health and safety standards, including FDA requirements.
