AMA Thought Leadership Series: “Moving Beyond a Pandemic”

AMA President Gerald E. Harmon, M.D., led a recent discussion on what physicians have learned over the course of the pandemic thus far. The panel included three physician experts: Georges C. Benjamin, M.D., Celine R. Gounder, M.D., ScM, and Stephen Parodi, M.D. The panel discussed the impact of new variants and improvements in timelines and updates on vaccines for patients. The panel noted that, like the flu vaccine, COVID-19 vaccines may very likely become an annual event. The panel stressed the critical importance of relying on science and data rather than politicizing issues related to COVID-19. The panel also noted that research on long COVID is in its infancy but must continue to determine risk factors and therapeutics.
