ONC Publishes Cures Act Information Blocking Claims Data

On February 28, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology for the first time issued data on information blocking claims received since April 5, 2021, the effective date of information blocking regulations enacted under the 21st Century Cures Act. ONC data show that 274 claims of possible information blocking have been received, including 176 patient claims and 42 from attorneys. In addition, of the potential claims, ONC reports that 211 were brought against health care providers (defined in the regulations to include hospitals, pharmacies, physicians, and other providers).
