In a final rule published March 4, HHS postponed the effective date of the SUNSET rule (Securing Updated and Necessary Statutory Evaluations Timely) until September 22, 2022, pending judicial review. The SUNSET rule was originally published on January 19, 2021 and previously delayed until March 22, 2022. As originally promulgated, the rule would require almost all HHS regulations to be reviewed on a strict timeline. Those regulations that were not reviewed in that time frame would be automatically repealed.
